In an exclusive edition, the International Transportation Industry Chamber (CIT) was welcomed to the African continent with multiple possibilities for strategic partnerships in the transport and logistics sector.

With an extensive agenda of activities, CIT held last week, on July 12, 13 and 14, the Extraordinary General Assembly (AGE) in the city of Maputo, Mozambique, together with the host Chamber of Commerce of Mozambique (CCM), which is affiliated and representative of the Mozambique Chapter. In the 3 days of activities there were more than 800 participants in the 4 activities, with the active accompaniment of local and national TV stations, press and social media.

INTERNATIONAL CERTIFICATE COURSE

On the 1st day, the “International Certificate Course on Management and Digital Education – Logistics, Innovation, Trade and Business with Africa in the Globalized World” was held in the auditorium of the Technical University of Mozambique (UDM). With live broadcast, more than 150 participants had the opportunity to listen to renowned experts in the field of logistics and Brazilian and international transportation. The course was free and participants receive a certificate of participation.

WOMEN’S ROUND TABLE

Also on the 12th, in the afternoon, there was the Women’s Roundtable, with the theme “The Strength of Mozambican Women”, promoted by CCM, highlighting the economic empowerment of African women. The event was attended by important female personalities in the business and governmental area, such as the Vice Minister of Industry and Commerce, Ms. Ludovina Bernardo and the Vice President of CCM, Ms. Yolanda Fernandes. In addition, there was the participation of the CIT delegation bringing their experiences in transport and logistics as Ms. Cecilia Anan (Argentina), Coordinating Director of the Commission of Women and Youth, Mr. Lucas Scapini (Brazil), CEO of the Scapini Group, André de Simone (Brazil), National Coordinator of COMJOVEM of NTC&Logística, and Ms. Larissa Barreto, Executive Director of CIT.

EXTRAORDINARY GENERAL ASSEMBLY

The following day, July 13, followed the Extraordinary General Assembly – AGE. Held in grand style at the Polana Serena Hotel, the CIT Assembly was widely publicized on TV stations, newspapers and Social Media (see at the end the reports) and was attended by the Former Ambassador of Brazil to Mozambique, Mr. Ademar Seabra da Cruz Junior. Members of RTI (International Transport Network) of CIT and representation from more than 10 chapters were present. In a very special and remarkable moment, the CEO of CIT, Dr. Marcelo Augusto de Felippes, handed over to the president of the Mozambique Chapter, Mr. Álvaro Massingue, the CIT flag as a gesture of appreciation and commitment to opening the borders of the African continent to RTI, in addition to the milestone characterizing the official entry of CIT into the African continent.

At the AGE the following were awarded the traditional OMITrans medal:

– Ademar Seabra da Cruz, Ambassador of Brazil in Mozambique – Ambassador Grade (Brazil);

– Julio Reyes Solis Tovar, President of the Panama Chapter – Ambassador Grade (Panama);

– Antonio Marques dos Santos, CIT Director of Technology – Ambassador Grade (Brazil);

– Rodrigo Otaviano Vilaça, Director of RV Conecta – Consul Grade (Brazil);

– Duarte Torrão, Portuguese Army Military – Diary Grade (Portugal); and

– Castigo Nhamane, President of FEMATRO – Diary Grade (Mozambique).

RECEPTION AT THE EMBASSY OF BRAZIL IN MAPUTO Also on July 13th, the Embassy of Brazil in Mozambique and the CIT hosted a reception in honor of the Brazilian and Mozambican delegations to the CIT Extraordinary General Assembly (AGE), as well as local activities and RTI member countries.

BUSINESS FORUM

As a closure to the Assembly, the last day was marked with the Business Forum, bringing together entrepreneurs, industrial leaders and government representatives to discuss investment opportunities and strategic partnerships. The main focus was on initiatives aimed at the development of Mozambican transportation, addressing the potential of multimodality with the integration of land, sea and air.

On the occasion of the forum, the Vice Minister of Transport and Communications of Mozambique, Mr. Amilton Alisson, received a small committee of the CIT Staff to discuss bilateral cooperation between Brazil and Mozambique on fleet renewal and workforce training, with a focus on the driving profession and road safety.

As a result of the Business Forum in Maputo, next August 3rd, at 1000hr (Brasília time), there will be a webinar to present the theme “Mozambique: new world oil and gas hotspot, future global agricultural powerhouse – investment opportunity for Brazil“, under the coordination of the Embassy of Brazil in Mozambique and CIT, as well as special guests.

INSTITUTIONAL VISIT TO THE PORT OF MAPUTO

Some CIT members had the great opportunity to make a technical visit to the Port of Maputo. The visit was guided by a port official where she shared how the operations take place.

At the end of the entire program, more than 800 participants were able to explore strategies to boost efficiency and innovation in business, taking into account the particularities of the African market. In addition, they had the opportunity to participate in an international course with current topics in the area of Road Safety, Infrastructure, Intermodality, young people in companies and successful experiences. At the Women’s Roundtable, important topics for female empowerment were discussed with cases and experiences of successful Mozambican women. Finally, the Assembly was marked with the entry of CIT into the African Continent and the commitment to seek new affiliations to expand the CIT International Transport Network.
