In recognition of its relevant international projection, the International Transport Industry Chamber held the 12th Ordinary General Assembly at the headquarters of the Organization of American States (OAS) in Washington, USA, in 2009, when it was recognized as an observer member of Civil Society. Later, in 2011, the United Nations (UN) hosted the 20th Ordinary General Assembly in New York, USA, at which moment the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) admitted the CIT as an observer member. In 2020, CIT signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Global Federation of Competitiveness Councils (GFCC), inserting CIT in the Triple Helix model (Government – University – Industry) and enabling its international expansion.

It has a relevant role in integration between the countries that comprise Latin America to establish commercial agreements and gradually create a Latin American common market. The agreement was renovated in 2020.
