The 36th Ordinary General Assembly (AGO) of the International Transportation Industry Chamber – CIT, was marked by its holding at the Headquarters of the United Nations Organization – UN, in New York City, on April 19 and 20, which was transmitted to the live on UN web TV. The event had numerous delegations from 19 members countries, some of which participated for the first time.

The General Secretariat presented an executive summary of the Chamber’s activities since the last meeting held in Costa Rica, in the second half of last year. It should be noted that the Council of Representatives unanimously approved the entry of new associates and affiliates, as follows: ASTRA – Association of Autonomous Road Transporters of Goods and Cargo (Brazil Chapter); G4 Daniel Gasnier (Brazil); 3e Infotech and D2B CARGO (India); Savannah Supply Chain (United States of America); ITS POLSKA (Poland) and the Department of Economic Affairs, Trade and Industry (Aruba). The International Transport Network (RTI) currently has 58 members countries. Additionally, the Council of Representatives elected the new board for the 2023-2025 biennium: General Secretary, Mr. Paulo Vicente Caleffi (BRAZIL); Undersecretary General, Mr. Oscar Grenald Castillo (PANAMA); Southern Cone Regional Director, Mr. Guillermo Werner (ARGENTINA); Regional Director for North America, Central America and the Caribbean, Mr. Julio Solis (PANAMA) and finally the Regional Director of the Andean Region, Mr. Jose Juan Ciccia (PERU).

On that occasion, they were designated by means of Normative Acts, namely:

  • Francisco Carlos Gonçalves Cardoso (BRAZIL), Coordinating Director of the Cargo Transport Commission;
  • Fredy Camilo Garcia Moreno (COLOMBIA), Coordinating Director of the Passenger Transport Commission;
  • María Cecília Anan (ARGENTINA), Coordinating Director of the Commission of Women and Young Leaders;
  • Paulo Gaba Jr. (BRAZIL), Coordinating Director of the Technology and Innovation Commission;
  • Silvio Vasco Campos Jorge (BRAZIL), Coordinating Director of Maritime Port Affairs;
  • Martinho Ferreira de Moura (BRAZIL), Coordinating Director of Tourism and Freight;
  • Luiz Sávio Salgado Brandão (BRASIL), Coordinating Director of the Health and ESG Sector;
  • Martin Guillermo Ojeda Trujillo (PERU), Coordinating Director of Legal Affairs;
  • Edgar Manuel Mora Carrión (ECUADOR), Transport Safety Coordinating Director;

Likewise, they were designated:

  • Jan Hoffmann (SWITZERLAND), CIT Honorary Consul in Europe to institutionally represent CIT in matters related to trade, technology, training, logistics and transport on the European continente;
  • Mr. Nelson Chávez (President of the Ecuador Chapter) Honorary Director of the CIT for his dedication and commitment to the development and growth of the institution;

On the other hand, the following personalities were awarded the Medal of the Order of Inter-American Merit in Transport:

  1. Álvaro Julião Massingue, president of the Mozambique Chamber of Commerce, president of the Mozambique Chapter;
  2. Edgar Manuel Mora Carrión, Coordinating Director of Transport Safety at CIT, Ecuador Chapter;
  3. José Juan Ciccia Carpena, Andean Regional Director of the CIT, Director of the Peru Chapter;
  4. Natália Sánchez Quintero, President of American Trucking Cargo, President of the United States Chapter; and
  5. Yannick Goupil, President of the Canada Chapter.

CONSUL GRADE:

  1. Afrânio Rogério Kieling, president of FETRANSUL, Brazil Chapter;

During the years 2022 and 2023, CIT has certified some companies with CQCIT and CITGREEN World Class Quality Certification products. Of the approved companies, the following received certifications within the scope of the Assembly:

  • Empresas Transportes Bertolini;
  • Grupo APISUL;
  • Transportes Cavalinho; and
  • KODEX Logística.

On the other hand, 2023 was a milestone for the 1st Traffic Facilitation Course – CONTRETI, developed in partnership with UNCTAD/UN and sponsored by the National Transport Confederation (CNT), had its closing ceremony at the Assembly, where the names of the 70 (seventy) students approved in the course. On the occasion, UNCTAD representatives, Ms. Arantzazu Belastegui and Mr. Jan Hoffmann, together with representatives from ABTI and CNT, delivered certificates to the approved students present at the event.

Agenda of the 36th Ordinary General Meeting:

  • Security in the Transport of Goods, Technologies and Control;
  • Business Opportunities between the United States and Latin America: The port of Savannah in constant growth in technology and infrastructure;
  • Colombia’s current economic outlook;
  • Transport decarbonization potential. Economic competitiveness and environmental improvement;
  • Women in the Transport World: The Global Vision;
  • COMJOVEM NATIONAL (Brazil): 15 years representing Road Cargo Transport;
  • The intervention of the transport sector in the Covid-19 pandemic crisis and the political crisis of 2023;
  • Transport and logistics in the midst of adversities;
  • Changes in energy matrices;
  • Soflanding – Russia, CIT CYLOG 4.0 and GETRAM Tec training program.

It is important to highlight that the Council of Representatives approved the following documents:

Resolution No. 1/2023 – deals with protocols for safe conditions for the transport of passengers and goods in the face of roadblock actions; and

Motion to the National Congress of Brazil – regarding the approval and conversion into law of a rule establishing the contracting of insurance to cover liability for damage to cargo, during the transport operation, exclusively for the carrier.

We inform you that an Extraordinary General Assembly will be held from the 12th to the 14th of July 2023, in the city of Maputo, Mozambique, in partnership with the Chamber of Commerce of Mozambique (CCM), a member of the CIT. Later this year, the 37th Ordinary General Meeting will take place at the headquarters of FADEEAC (Argentine Federation of Business Entities for Cargo Autotransport) in Buenos Aires, Argentina, on November 22nd and 23rd.

For the 1st half of 2024, Guatemala will host the 38th Ordinary General Assembly.
